Gratitude and Awe for our Community in Minneapolis

Hello White Pine Community,

We recently held a gathering with members of our East Asian medicine community who are on the ground in Minneapolis. Hearing directly from those living there was truly eye-opening. They spoke about the frightening and destructive presence of ICE in their neighborhoods and communities, and about the courageous ways they are responding.

I highly recommend that everyone in our White Pine Community watch this moving gathering.

What struck me most was the realization that they are resisting ICE and protecting their communities on behalf of all of us. It is very possible that their organized resistance has influenced DHS to greatly reduce or discontinue these invasions. Living in Massachusetts, I am aware that although our state is considered very “blue,” we could easily become a target as well.

I helped organize this gathering so that we could bear witness and explore ways to offer support. What surprised me, however, was that the four practitioners who spoke were, in many ways, offering us support. By sharing what they have learned about effective and safe responses to ICE activity, they are helping us prepare so that we are ready if and when the need arises.
