About the Program

What is the Graduate Mentorship Program?

The Graduate Mentorship Program (GMP) is a multi-year, in-depth clinical training in classical East Asian medicine grounded in the Huángdì Nèijīng and Zhāng Zhòngjǐng’s Shānghán Zábìng Lùn. It emphasizes physiology, diagnosis, and herbal formulas through the unifying framework of Great Turning. It is taught by Sharon Weizenbaum

Is this a theoretical or clinical program?

Both. Classical theory is taught explicitly so it can be applied directly in clinical diagnosis, case analysis, and herbal prescribing.

Who is this program for?

The program is designed for licensed practitioners, advanced students, and clinicians who want greater diagnostic clarity, confidence with formulas, and a coherent framework for complex cases.

Who is Sharon Weizenbaum?

Here is her CV

Structure & Timeline

How long is the program?

The program spans approximately 2½ years, with summers off. It consists of 8 courses, each containing 6 modules.

How often do classes meet?

Classes meet biweekly on Fridays, 9:30 am–12:30 pm EST. All sessions are recorded.

Are recordings available if I can’t attend live?

Yes. All classes, Q&A sessions and case reviews are recorded and posted.

Payments and Refunds

Is there a payment plan available?

Yes, it is on the registration page of the program

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

The refund policies are listed here

Participation Tracks

What are the two participation tracks?

  • Student Track: Fully flexible, no requirements or deadlines
  • Certification Track: Structured participation with assignments, case review, and final exam

When do I need to decide on the certification track?

You do not need to decide right away. You can complete assignments, discussions, quizzes, and case work as you go and decide whether to pursue certification just before the final exam. If you are keeping up with the coursework, choosing certification is usually a small additional step. Even if you ultimately decide not to take the exam, completing assignments along the way offers significant learning benefits.

Can I switch tracks later?

Yes. You can complete coursework as you go and opt into certification later.

Certification

What does certification represent?

Certification reflects a high level of mastery in diagnosis, classical physiology, and the clinical application of formulas.

What is required for certification?

Certification requires:

  • attending all classes (live or recorded)
  • completing assignments, quizzes, and discussions
  • attending TA sessions
  • submitting a case for review
  • passing the final exam

How is coursework graded?

Assignments, discussion forums and quizzes are graded complete/incomplete. The final exam is graded.

How does the point system work?

  • 400 points are required to qualify for the final exam
  • 450 points total are required for certification

Points come from participation, assignments, quizzes, and case review.

Points earned in previous GMP courses carry forward.

Assignments & Deadlines

Are there deadlines for coursework?

Deadlines apply only to students on the Certification Track.

What are the deadlines for certification students?

Certification-track students must complete each module’s required work within 30 days of the module being taught.

Are there deadlines on the Student Track?

No. Student Track participants may complete coursework at their own pace.

Case Reviews

Are case reviews required?

Case reviews are required for certification but are open to all students, regardless of track.

When can I submit a case for review?

Case reviews may be submitted after the diagnosis portion of the program is complete (beginning in the second year).

How does the case review process work?
