This coming November 19 and 20th I am traveling to Chicago to teach a course I am very excited about. Here is a blog entry to describe what I will be teaching. I hope I see some of you there!
Learning how the body works through the study of classic formulas and case studies
Organized by the Illinois Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Chicago, November 19-20, 2011
Classic formulas are ingeniously designed to correct malfunctions of the Qi dynamic. Through a deep understanding of a formula, we can see into how our predecessors saw the body – how it functions in health and in disharmony. In other words, a formula can teach us both about physiology and patho-physiology. In this course Sharon Weizenbaum will be taking us into the heart of several very important formulas, some of which are perhaps not understood well or misunderstood. You will leave this course with an understanding of how to use these formulas in your practices for the types of disorders you commonly see. Case studies used to illustrate the principles of these formulas are primarily from Sharon’s practice and will also include cases from well-known Doctors that Sharon has translated.
The formulas Sharon will illustrate the dynamics of the 6 warps of the Shang Han Lun from Tai Yang – Yang Ming – Shao Yang – Tai Yin – Shao Yin – Jue Yin. We will explore the way in which these formulas reveal the underlying systematic logic of the Shang Han Lun.
Here are the basic formulas we will cover:
Gui Zhi Tang (Tai Yang dynamics)
(Illustrated with a case of Stomach Atrophy and anxiety
Da Qing Long Tang (Tai Yang/Yang Ming dynamics)
(Illustrated with a case of gout and allergies)
Da Chai Hu Tang (Shao Yang/Yang Ming dynamics)
(Illustrated with a case of pneumonia following breast reduction surgery)
Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang (Tai Yin/Water dynamics)
(Illustrated with a case of profound depression and anxiety with Ben Tun)
Ma Huang Fu Zi Xi Xin Tang (Shao Yin/Tai Yang dynamics)
(Illustrated with a case of insomnia and hypoglycemia)
Wu Mei Wan (Jue Yin dynamics)
(Illustrated with a case of migraine headache)
(cases are from Sharon’s practice but the patient names below are made up)

This looks really exciting! I wish I could come to Chicago to take this workshop! This is exactly the stuff our profession needs to pay attention to. ..
Thanks Z’ev I wish you could be there too!
Will this workshop be recorded for later webcast or streaming live for those not in Chicago?
Hello Sharon! I cannot come to chicago that weekend and away at another class. I hope this will be available on Pro D at some point! Making my way through Huang Huang’s pediatric class. Very Nice. Thank-you so much for your contributions and making these courses so accessible. I am finding wonderful success with the classic formulas. Enthusiasm!
This looks fantastic! I won’t be able to attend, but hope that it will later be available online. I’ll put the word out among the ACCHS community in case anyone has the opportunity to make it out.
